After several weeks of use, we can vouch that the sweet tasting balance tincture has been a nice addition to our self-care routine. Trying the drops before bed, we achieved sleep faster and feel into rest. We even shared the Luxury CBD Body Butter with a friend who’s been experiencing pain due to back surgery and she’s a fan! We’ve caught the CBD wave and would like to share an exclusive interview the women behind it all. Meet the Queens of Hemp:
Debuting in throws of Christmas and the New Year, Brown Girl Jane launched with thousands of sold out units and a waitlist worthy of a crown. They’re goal? To HELP BADASS WOMEN MANAGE FULL LIVES, NATURALLY and to feel like themselves again. Ultimately, helping us find balance.
Malaika Jones Kebede was introduced to the world of pharmaceuticals after an epidural pinched her spine during childbirth. Because of the nerve damage and pain Malaika started to research an all-natural alternative. She admits that she has a more holistic state of mind. Through her research, Malaika stumbled across the power of plants, “more specifically the power of CBD.” Through championing for her own healing and the healing of others, Brown Girl Jane was created. Pioneering a movement of plant-based wellness and meeting the specific needs of black women, Brown Girl Jane offers balance and sleep tinctures, luxury body butter, described as a massage in a jar and even feminine care oils.
“Honestly I felt like it changed my life, integrating balance amidst the chaos,” Malaika said. “We think it will be helpful and a small part of the wellness journey that people go on. It was important for us to craft a company that felt like home.”
Brown Girl Jane addresses a number of issues that include balance, overall wellness, sleep, anxiety, all sorts of topical and physical pain. The brand is also now an option for aiding with Anxiety and Depression due to the cumulative effect of the societal /economic and social factors. In this arena black women suffer most. The founders work with farmers and manufactures to cultivate and source the best CBD-based products on the market. They are then infused with their own proprietary blends.
“We know first hand that all people, all women are juggling a lot sometimes, but women of color are next level, Malaika said. [Our CBD] may help in increasing our overall wellness, damping some of our anxiety, helping with some of these feelings that come with always showing up for everyone.”
Misconceptions About The Immediate Relief of CBD:
Our bodies have receptors and the largest is the equalival system (internal balance). When that gets out of whack, you feel stressed, you feel anxiety, you're sleepy, but can’t sleep -- all of these things happen and take our bodies out of homeostasis (balance). CBD is apart of that same group of compounds which help target those receptors to put them back into balance and so it’s not like ibprobin or CEDMINFIN which blocks your receptor systems and blocks you from being able to feel pain. It’s actually rebalancing your internal scale. After 30 days see how you feel. You’re not going to feel a jolt because it’s not a drug.
All CBD is not created equal. There’s three kinds of CBD, isolate (strips it all out including THC), Full spectrum (You get the benefit of everything and residual amounts of THC), and then Broad spectrum (which takes out any traces of THC, but keeps all the benefits. We call this the entourage effect. It’s our unicorn of CBD and most expensive to reproduce.
Three Things You Know About Brown Girl Jane:
FOR US, BY US: This is created for us, by us. This to us is very true and it’s not a gimmick. It’s something that our whole lives have been centered around before we built this brand. This is the ethos of how we operate and it’s how we built our reputations outside of this just in terms of supporting the advancement of disenfranchised and underrepresented communities. So I think in this day and age, it’s important to understand and know who’s making the products that you are buying, why they’ve made them and what the mission is behind them.
COMMITMENT: We are steadfast in our commitment to the quality of the products. All of the products are third party lab tested. You can see the results at anytime on our website. And that’s important because this is something you’re putting in your body and this is something that is supposed to contribute to your overall wellness. We were deliberate about every single ingredient, where the plants are coming from. Everything piece of the business was chosen for a purpose. Every ingredient serves a purpose. [We stand by an] uncompromised quality of the products.
INCLUSIVITY: Our communities have been disproportionately targeted by criminal legislation around the plant, we know that we are prevented a lot of times from accessing the health benefits around the plant, and we surely have been excluded from the conversations about wealth creation, economic opportunities that come now that legislation has shifted a little bit. We are trying to make The inclusivity the center of this business.
BROWN GIRL JANE on SELF LOVE
“I think as I’ve gotten older and more real stuff has been put on our plate, I have realized that it’s the small things for me, that can sometimes add up to totally changing how I feel. And so a lot of times people (well even me I used to think) oh I just need a big vacation, or I need a different job or God it’s too cold in this city I want to move, those are the really big things. And for me particularly, with being an entrepreneur, and having marriage and kids, I found my biggest moments of self care through the little things that have added up to big things. I’m talking everything from taking a bath, to goal setting, and mantras and taking an extra two minutes before I walk into the house from my car to take a deep breathe, parking a little further from the store and walking there. It’s just the little things that make me feel better. It can be something as frivolously as putting on eye cream.
It wouldn’t even be about the eye-cream, it was the act of saying I’m going to take an extra two minutes when I wash my face do this for myself and it became a mental thing. I realized it had nothing to do with the physical need to do that. [I’m saying to myself] you’re taking this an extra moment and this is for you, only for you. So for me my experience is, it doesn’t have to be big, it can start quite small, just the act of being deliberate about doing something for yourself that’s positive has such big residual effects and coupled with bigger and more intentional things helps me get to a place where I did feel balance and didn’t feel like a hamster on the wheel.”
