Understanding Sensitive Skin in Feminine & Skincare
Sensitive skin is among one of many skin types. It’s often believed that sensitivity is experienced when certain products are used or one is having a skin reaction. Though this is often true, some persons naturally have sensitive skin meaning that it responds negatively to a wide range of skincare ingredients if they are not deliberately selected to fit the skin.
There are some popular ingredients that are known to have a negative response when used on sensitive skin.
These include:
Alcohol
Fragrance
Sulfates
Harsh Exfoliators (Chemical and/or Manual)
Some essential oils
Persons with sensitive skin should be extremely careful to stay away from or significantly minimize the use of these ingredients. Making these choices will help to keep breakouts and skin irritations at bay.
Per the AloeCurves FAQ, there are three kinds of reactions that can occur on your skin:
Purging is an indication that the product is speeding up that process of skin cell turnover. Purging takes form in blackheads and flesh-colored bumps on the skin.
Skin Irritation can cause red irritated pimples. Irritation will show in the form of inflamed, itchy, burning, or just pain. If products you’ve used are contributing to any of these symptoms, it's probably not the product for you.
Allergies can occur if you’re actually allergic to an ingredient. If an allergic-reaction occurs discontinue use of the product completely.
We recommend using skincare that is natural, full of vitamin-packed herbs, oils and ingredients that are great for sensitive, dry and irritated skin.
Not every woman is sensitive as it relates to skin on their face, but there has been a rise in sensitivities with feminine care products. Feminine care encompasses the care of the female genitals and reproductive system.
Examples are douching and the regular use of soap to wash the female private area is often way too harsh and often leaves the vagina feeling irritated. This irritation could lead to lack of moisture, bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections.
Therefore when caring for the vagina the best option is using warm water to cleanse the vagina or a very gentle feminine wash that is PH Balanced, free of fragrance and harsh ingredients like sulfates. A balanced vaginal PH of 3.5 to 4.5 keeps bad bacteria out and the good bacteria flowing.
Feminine care is very important also as it relates to sex. The vagina should be cleaned before and after sex to remove the presence of bacteria that can lead to vaginal infections or UTI. Peeing after sex also is key to preventing UTI.
